Sounding Free is a fiberglass Westsail 32, built in Costa Mesa, California in 1976.  The boat displaces 18,000 pounds empty, about 20,000 pounds with cruising gear.  The Westsail line was built heavily to withstand the rigors of ocean passages, and have a reputation for safety.  This is a sistership to the sailboat that survived The Perfect Storm.  We have found Sounding Free to have a gentle motion, even in rough seas.  Below you will find pictures of the various areas of the boat, each accompanied with explanations.  To give you an idea of how much goes into a cruising boat, we've also included a comprehensive equipment list.
